We had to be up early
again today to go canoeing at Katherine Gorge. When we first got there all you could hear was bats. There were hundreds of them hanging from trees above our heads. We had to collect a paddle and life jacket, then get on a boat cruise to take us to the first gorge.
We were told there was a
chance we would see crocodiles in the water. As they were freshwater
crocodiles, they were apparently safe to swim with, but I didn’t want to take
that chance. As there were nesting areas on the side of the river, you couldn’t
pull up on the sand banks. If you did, it was a $5000 fine. We didn't see any crocodiles, but we saw their tracks on the riverbanks so it was likely they were in the water with us.
I was in a canoe with
Roxy. After a while we sorted out our paddling and make it to the second gorge We had to climb out and drag our canoe across the rocks, which were easier said
than done. It was really slippery and at one point I ended up sat in the water. We managed in the end and got to the end of the third gorge before
turning back.
We had some time left so a lot of us joined our canoes together for a giant game of 'would you rather'. We then canoed in and got a boat cruise back to meet Lisa.
