Hot Air Balloon Hangover 04/07/16

Emily and I had to be up at 5am to be picked up for a hot air balloon ride we had booked the day before. We were definitely regretting staying out so late when our alarms went off. I came close to throwing it across the room. I felt bad for Kath and Kayla who were trying to sleep!

I think we were still drunk when we were picked up and taken to the balloon site. The guides set up the balloon for us while we sat in the warm. It was absolutely freezing. I was surprised by how big the balloon was.

We had to climb into the basket and hold on whilst it was taking off. There was really strong wind so the balloon lifted really quickly which was a bit bumpy. I was quite nervous at first but as soon as it stabilized it felt a lot more safe. I think still being a bit drunk helped with the nerves.

The views were amazing. You could see all the different colours in the sky as the sun began to rise. From the air, we could see roaming cattle and the road tracks below us. We flew across Alice Springs and could see the mountain ranges in the distance.

The landing was a lot smoother than take off. We had to help pack up the balloon, which was so much heavier than I thought it would be. By this point I was really noticing only having 3 hours sleep.

Emily and I then braved a glass of champagne with breakfast at the flight site before going back to the hotel.

We met up with the rest of the group for breakfast, We met up with Kath and drunk several cups of tea, Emily, Kath and I decided to go back to bed for a few hours.

We woke up at 1ish and decided to go into town to Red Dog Cafe for lunch.  I had a kangaroo burger and a much needed salad. We then went to Uncle Edy's Ice Cream bar and did a little souvenir shopping.

After lunch we mostly just chilled at the hotel. It was nice to have a day of doing nothing after we had been so busy and had such a late night. I backed up all my photos and spoke to a few people from home.

In the evening, most of our group piled into Lisa’s room for a Crocodile Dundee movie night. It was strange to watch the film in the middle of the outback knowing we had been to some of the places where they had filmed. We had a really chilled evening just laughing and hanging out as a group.

Despite our naps, we were really tired after the film, so went straight to bed.
