Uluru Base Walk 06/07/16

We had to get up really early to watch the sun rise at Uluru. It was worth it though as the view was amazing. When we got back on the bus, we had a birthday cake for Vera who turned 21 the day before.

We then headed to Uluru to complete the base walk, which was around 10k. When we first got there it was absolutely freezing. We did our best 'try not to look cold' group selfie and then set off.
I spent most of the time walking round with Kath. We were powering through and walking at the front, so I think we were the first to reach the half way point where Lisa was waiting. Although we were so busy chatting that we starting walking down a random road instead of the path. We only realised after about a mile that we were going the wrong way. We thought it would be really easy to cut back into the path, but after walking across the bush for a while we though it would be easier to head back to the road.

Every time a bus went past we were nervous thinking it was Lisa and all the stick she would give us for going the wrong way. We decided we made the right choice as we got some epic 'distance views' of the rock.

Whilst we were walking I heard Kath scream and run out of the way. Turns out she thought she saw a snake, although it was actually a piece of hose pipe. Hilarious!

We eventually rejoined the path and made it back to the main base meeting point. It was such an amazing walk! We saw the point where people attempt to climb which looked incredibly difficult. No way would I attempt it even if there wasn't bad karma attached!
