Shipwreck Coast, Apostles, Great Ocean Road 17/07/16

We then left the Grampians to head to the ‘Shipwreck Coast’ on the Great Ocean Road. On the way out Sid stopped at the point where there had been a huge landslide the year before. You could see a huge gap in the trees where everything had fallen.

The first stop on the Great Ocean Road that Sid took us to was a random lookout point that was unknown to most tourists. It was nice to be back by the ocean again!

We then went to the Bay of Islands, and after that, the Bay of Martyrs.

Our next stop was London Bridge, which no longer looked like a bridge as the middle part had collapsed. Sid told us a story that two people had got stuck on the other side when the middle had fallen. What they thought was a rescue helicopter was actually a news crew, and the couple went from waving their arms to get seen and rescued, to trying to hide from them, as they were having an affair. We decided the moral of the story was to wear balaclavas.

We stopped in Port Campbell for some tea, which we drank sat on the beach. Even though it was freezing, it was nice to be by the water. We then drove to the Razorback in Port Campbell National Park, which was another famous apostle.

We carried on walking to Lord Ard Gorge, where we could go right down onto the beach. There were so many tourists there including two Chinese girls in stilettos! They looked ridiculous trying to walk through the sand. At one point a guy was so busy taking a selfie he didn’t see the wave coming into the beach so he got soaked.

We walked back up to the bus and Jade and I tried to book a helicopter ride over the apostles. Sid dropped us off but when we got to the main desk we found out it was closed :( I wasn’t too disappointed, as I will probably have other chances to fly over the East Coast.

Our last stop of the day was the famous Twelve Apostles site. We stayed there for around an hour watching the sunset.

Sid then drove us to Princetown, where we would stay for the night. Sid, Sarah, Jade and I were literally the only people who spoke to each other, so we went to a bottleshop and sat outside drinking together, whilst the rest of the group sat inside being really antisocial. We had a mix of fish and chips or pizza for dinner and then went to bed.
