I got up early this
morning as I needed to check out of Wake Up and meet James, who is my dad's cousin, to drop off my things. I’m going to be staying with him for a lot of
the time I am in Sydney. Jude and I had arranged
to go to Taronga Zoo in the morning, so James dropped me at Circular Quay so I
could get the ferry over. I caught the ferry and waited for Jude to get there.
Jude was getting dropped off on the other side of the zoo, so I got a cable car to the main entrance,
which was really fun and gave amazing views of the city.
I met Jude, we grabbed
some tea, and then went to book our animal encounters. We decided to do the
giraffe and koala encounter. We wandered around the
zoo for a bit looking at all the animals. We went to the reptile center and saw
loads of snakes and lizards. We also saw some chimpanzees, zebras and a Komodo Dragon.
Our giraffe encounter was
at 11.45pm, so we headed over there slightly earlier. The giraffe pen overlooks
the harbour so you can see the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. They
definitely have the best view!
We each got to feed a
giraffe some carrots. I learnt they have have really long tongues! It
was a really cool experience and I'm so glad we managed to get some photos.
We carried on walking
through the zoo and saw loads of different animals including elephants, loads
of different birds and emus. We went to the water section and saw really cute
seals, penguins and even sharks.
We then headed over to
our Koala Encounter at 12.45pm. We didn’t get to hold them, as that’s illegal in New South
Wales, but we did get to go really close and take loads of photos.
We carried on wandering
round the zoo till around 2.30ish, and took selfies with lots of animals. The kangaroo and emu enclosure had no fences so they walked right up to you!
It
was a really nice day and great to catch up with Jude. At the end of the zoo trip, we got the cable car
back down together.
We then had to say goodbye as Jude needed to go back to
Circular Quay and I was going to Manly to meet Maddie and Andy.
